Rochester, NY : Motorcyclist dead after crash near Hollenbeck and Strong streets on September 2 2016

Rochester police said one person is dead after a motorcycle crash in the area of Hollenbeck and Strong streets in the city.

Police responded to the area around 11:48 a.m. after 911 calls from the area, said Rochester Police Lt. Ron Malley.

Malley said a male adult motorcyclist died at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the motorcyclist was southbound on Hollenbeck when he was struck by a northbound vehicle that was making a left turn onto Strong Street, Malley said.

The driver of the car was not injured and the investigation will determine whether charges are filed, Malley said.

Witness Mark Williams, whose niece lives on a nearby block of Hollenbeck Street, said he was grilling outside her residence when he heard a loud bang and turned to see the aftermath of the collision. The driver, who Williams said was female, got out of the car and started screaming when she saw the motorcycle and the man in the street, he said.

"You could tell something just happened," he said. "It's an eerie feeling when you know someone just lost their life."

About a block of Hollenbeck Street at the intersection of Strong Street has been temporarily closed.
