A 77-year-old Belle Rose woman was killed this evening in a single-vehicle crash in Assumption Parish, State Police said.
The crash claimed the life of Bunideen Philip, Trooper First Class Jesse LaGrange said in a news release.
Shortly after 5 p.m. Philip was traveling north on La. 1 in a 2013 Nissan Murano, LaGrange said. For reasons still being investigated, she veered off the roadway to the right and struck a tree.
Philip was not wearing a seat belt and suffered fatal injuries, LaGrange said. She was transported to Prevost Memorial Hospital, where she died shortly later.
Although drug and alcohol use are not suspected, standard toxicology tests are pending, LaGrange said.
