Tucson, AZ : Two drivers cited in patrol car, bus crash on October 14th 2014.
A Tucson police officer and a Sunnyside district bus driver were both cited for a crash on the city’s south side last week.
The crash occurred Oct. 14 on South Campbell Avenue near East Wyoming Street.
The officer, whose name was not released, was en route to assist another officer, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman. The patrol car did not have its lights flashing or siren on.
The officer was traveling south on Campbell and rear-ended a Sunnyside Unified School District bus, which made a right turn from Wyoming onto Campbell, Dugan said.
The officer was cited for speed greater than reasonable and prudent, and for not wearing a seat belt, Dugan said.
The bus driver was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign, Dugan said. He explained that the bus driver did not yield for oncoming traffic once he proceeded from the stop sign.
Damage estimates to the patrol car and bus were not available, said Dugan.
The officer was hospitalized for his injuries.
