Baker, CA : Woman, 86, suffers major injuries in rollover crash near Baker on Thursday morning, June 9, 2016
Emergency responders transported an 86-year-old woman to Loma Linda University Medical Center on Thursday morning after she suffered major injuries in a single-vehicle rollover crash south of Baker, authorities said.
California Highway Patrol spokesman Ryan Camara said officers responded to the rollover on southbound Interstate 15, south of Rasor Road, at approximately 5:20 a.m. Camara said officers found the woman inside a vehicle that had rolled over into the open desert.
Baker Ambulance transported the woman to Barstow Community Hospital. Camara said she was later transported to the trauma center by Mercy Air.
Camara said the woman was driving a 2011 Toyota Yaris and lost control while attempting to switch from the southbound No. 2 to No. 1 lanes. Camara said the Yaris traveled across the southbound lanes and onto the Rasor Road off-ramp and into the open desert.
After traveling through the desert, the Yaris went back onto the right shoulder and struck a roadway sign, causing the car to overturn onto its roof.
Camara said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the rollover and officers were investigating on Thursday.
