PHOENIX, AZ : A high-speed chase in Phoenix on Wednesday, January, 24th 2018

A high-speed chase in Phoenix, Ariz. ended in a violent, head-on crash Wednesday.

The suspect was racing through traffic drove into oncoming traffic to avoid a vehicle, causing it to slam into another vehicle.

The crash sent the suspect’s car spinning out of control in a cloud of smoke.

Law enforcement was in pursuit after spotting the driver speeding on the freeway.

The man was reportedly on the phone with officials during the chase, insisting that he was a "sovereign citizen" not bound by the law.

After exiting the freeway and crashing the suspect tried to run away but quickly surrendered.

Details weren't immediately available on the extent of the injuries suffered by the two people inside the vehicle, but emergency crews took at least one person away on a stretcher.
