Wellsboro,IN : Markle teen killed in Wells County crash on February, Wednesday 14th 2018
Young Michaela Adam lost her life Wednesday night in a single vehicle crash.
According to the Wells County Sheriff’s Department, the 17-year-old Markle teen was driving a 1997 Chrysler Concord westbound on US 224, west of the intersection CR 300 West in the Uniondale area, at 8:26 p.m.
Her vehicle left the north side of US 224 as the road curved slightly left. Once the vehicle left the road, it collided with a utility pole which broke and fell across the roadway. Adam was found deceased in the damaged vehicle.
The Markle and and Uniondale fire departments were dispatched and assisted at the scene. The accident is under further investigation.
Adam’s loss is deeply felt in the community.
“She was a nice kid with a great personality who cared about others,” said Mark Misch, principal of Norwell High School, where Adam was a junior.
Adam played French horn in the school’s marching band for four years, the first year when she was an eighth grader at Norwell Middle School. She also was in the high school’s pep band.
Cory Kelley, Norwell High School band director, said Adam was a great student and musician.
“She was one of the best. Just recently she was selected to be inducted into the Honor Band,” Kelley said.
He described her as being a bright, hard working and friendly young lady.
Adam was honored during Friday night’s home game by a Moment of Silence before the game against Jay County. Pep band members wore gold ribbons in her memory and had an empty chair to honor her.
Misch said there have been additional counselors at the high school. There will be counselors next week as well.
Adam’s friends made cards for her family, signed by Misch and students.
Adam is survived by her parents and sisters.
