Wilmington, NC : Dirt bike rider died after colliding with a Jeep Cherokee on Saturday, July 18th, 2015

Wilmington police have identified the rider of a dirt bike who died after colliding with a Jeep Cherokee just before 9 p.m. Saturday.

According to Cathryn Lindsay with the Wilmington Police Department, Damiel Devane, 34, was thrown off his dirt bike onto the street after his collision, and later died due to severe head injuries at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

According to the police report, witnesses reported the Devane and a 4-wheeler appeared to be racing westbound on Castle Street at a high speed without any lights.

Police say the Jeep Cherokee started to turn onto South Tenth Street when Devane hit it.

The driver of the 4-wheeler reportedly stopped for a moment, then left the scene when police got there.

Police are asking for the public's help in locating the male driver of the 4-wheeler.
