Wichita, KS : Seven children, two adults injured after pileup crash on K-96 in Sedgwick County Tuesday morning, January 24, 2017
Seven children and two adults were sent to a Wichita hospital after a six-vehicle pileup in Sedgwick County Tuesday morning.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report, while driving a 2010 Chevrolet passenger van east on K-96 at 8:42 a.m., Jennifer Lynne Luedeke, 39, of Haven, rear-ended a 2013 Chevrolet passenger car driven by Faye R. Vargas, 43, of Hutchinson, that had slowed down due to construction and an unrelated traffic collision.
Vargas’ vehicle then pushed into a 2005 Ford SUV driven by Craig A. Martin, 46, of Mount Hope, which then slid into a 2012 Chevrolet passenger truck driven by Omar Galaviz, 28, of Maize.
The Chevy then collided into a 2015 Honda passenger car operated by Jolene R. Yoder, 59, of Haven, whose vehicle then subsequently crashed into a 2010 Chevrolet passenger truck driven by Randall D. Parks, 54, of Hutchinson.
Luedeke and her seven passengers were transported to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis with possible injuries. The passengers, all with her same last name, were Cody, 4, Isaiah, an infant, Reuben, 2, Gideon, 13, Micah, 6, Treysen, 8, and Levi, 11, all of Haven.
Vargas also was sent to St. Francis with injuries.
Their conditions were not immediately available.
Martin was not hurt, but it’s believed his passenger, Rachel Serrano, 42, Colwich, was. She was not sent to the hospital.
Galaviz, Yoder, Parks and Parks’ passenger, Terry Lynn Lawrence, 60, Hutchinson, were not injured.
Everyone involved was wearing their proper safety restraints.
