Watertown, SD : A 29-year-old Watertown woman is dead as a result of a vehicle-pedestrian acciden on Thursday, August 24, 2017
A 29-year-old Watertown woman is dead as a result of a vehicle-pedestrian accident Thursday night on U.S. Highway 212, according to the S.D. Dept. of Public Safety.
The name of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family members.
The accident occurred at mile marker 374 near the Pelican Plaza mobile home lot. Watertown Fire Rescue received the call at 9:43 p.m.
According to authorities the woman and a man were in the median of the highway when she stepped onto the roadway and was struck by an eastbound pickup.
The pickup was being driven at highway speeds in the passing lane by a 52-year-old man. He told authorities that he saw the woman, braked but could not avoid contact.
The victim was taken to Prairie Lakes Healthcare System where she was pronounced dead.
WFR, the Codington County Sheriff's Office and the S.D. Highway Patrol were at the scene. The SDHP is leading the investigation.
