Terre Haute, IN : Two seriously hurt in I-70 eastbound crash on Friday, October 6, 2017
A two semi crash Friday afternoon on eastbound Interstate 70 near the Wabash River Bridge entrapped and severely injured one driver and seriously injured a co-driver, according to state police.
Preliminary investigation showed traffic was slow and nearly stopped just before 3:10 p.m., when a semi driven by 24-year-old Nick Dismuke of Michigan failed to stop, ISP Sgt. Joe Watts said in a news release.
Dismuke's truck hit the rear of a semi driven by 51-year-old Alexandru Pistin of Brownstown, Michigan.
The impact entrapped Dismuke for nearly one hour. He was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of internal injuries, fractures, and lacerations.
The co-driver with Dismuke, 42-year-old Joshua J. Fry of Jackson, Michigan, was taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He suffered internal injuries, arm fracture, and lacerations. His injuries also are serious.
Alexandru Pistin was not injured.
Traffic was re-routed onto National Avenue through West Terre Haute to U.S. 41 south to I-70. Two other minor crashes occurred during the re-route. All lanes were opened at 6:53 p.m.
The crash was investigated by ISP Detective Michael Featherling. Troopers were assisted by Terre Haute Fire/Rescue, Lifeline Air Medical, Lambert’s Towing and Recovery and Absolute Towing and Recovery.
