Yakima, WA : Man killed in Saturday motorcycle crash on Tieton Drive identified on September 17 2016
The 19-year-old Yakima man killed Saturday when the motorcycle he was driving rear-ended a car on Tieton Drive has been identified as Rafael Martinez.
Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins, who confirmed Martinez' identity to the Yakima Herald-Republic in a phone interview this afternoon, said he did not know the identity of Martinez' passenger, who was injured in the crash.
Yakima Police Department spokesman Mike Bastinelli also did not know the female passenger's name or age but said her injuries did not appear life-threatening.
He expects to release her name Monday morning.
The crash happened on Tieton Driver near 56th Avenue shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday. The motorcycle, heading west, rear-ended a Toyota Camry and was then struck by an eastbound Chrysler 300.
Martinez was taken to a local hospital where he died, Bastinelli said.
The preliminary investigation did not indicate that Martinez was traveling excessively fast or that he was intoxicated, though Hawkins said his office will do a toxicology report as is standard with such fatalities.
