A Hilliard man died and four other people including a teenager were injured early Saturday when their sport utility vehicle crashed and overturned several in Nassau County.
The driver wasn’t immediately known because of conflicting statements among the survivors of the crash about 12:36 a.m. on Kolar Ferry Road east of Murrhee Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 31-year-old Hilliard man, whose name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, died at the scene. Injured were Jennifer Stevenson, 37, of Hilliard, Farah Carden, 39, of Jacksonville, Johnathon Batterby Sny, 32, of Hilliard and 13-year-old Layla Malone also of Hilliard. All were taken to UF Health Jacksonville, the Highway Patrol said.
They were in a Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound Kolars Ferry Road east of Murrhee Road when for an unknown reason it veered off the roadway. The Tahoe overturned several times before coming to rest on its right side. It was unknown whether any of the victims had been wearing their safety belts, according to the Highway Patrol.
