SOLDIERTOWN TOWNSHIP, ME : 4 hurt in chain reaction snowmobile crash in northern Maine on Friday, 11th January 2019

Four people were hurt in what authorities are calling a complex snowmobile crash in northern Maine.

Warden Service officials say two snowmobiles heading in opposite directions crashed nearly head-on in Soldiertown Township late Friday morning. A 15-year-old boy from Lancaster, Massachusetts, broke his arm and suffered a possible concussion, while a 46-year-old man from Herman, Maine, broke his collar bone and shoulder.

Two other riders — a father and son from Ayer, Massachusetts — then crashed into trees trying to avoid the crash. The father sustained minor injuries, while the son broke his shoulder.

Due to the remote location, it took nearly an hour and a half for rescue crews to arrive.

Game wardens say speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.
