Phoenix, AZ : Fatal collision northwest of Phoenix closes SR 74 near U.S. 60 on Wednesday, 4th December, 2019

A Scottsdale man was killed after a sedan collided with a semi truck northwest of Phoenix Wednesday morning, closing the highway in both directions while officials investigated, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

A Mercedes sedan was traveling west on State Route 74 when the vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane and was struck head-on by a semitruck carrying gravel, DPS officials said.

The 65-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was declared dead at the scene, DPS said. The man was driving while alone in his vehicle, and it's unknown why the the vehicle veered into the eastbound lane, the agency said.

There were no other injuries reported from the incident. Authorities said State Route 74 was closed in both directions between 211th Avenue and U.S. 60 for an extended period during the investigation.
