A 44-year-old Newton County man died overnight at an Atlanta trauma center as the result of injuries he received during a motorcycle crash Wednesday afternoon.According to the Georgia State Patrol, around 4:20 p.m. Johnny Delmar was operating a 1998 Kawasaki ZXE headed northbound on West Street in Covington, approaching Clark Street. A 2010 Dodge Caliber being driven by a 65-year-old Covington woman was at the intersection of West and Clark streets facing south.

"The driver of the Dodge began to turn left and stopped partially in the northbound lane of West Street after seeing the motorcycle approaching at a high rate of speed," said GSP spokesman Gordy Wright. "Johnny Delmar lost control of the motorcycle south of the intersection and was ejected. He slid through the intersection and came to rest under the Dodge Caliber."
The motorcycle continued traveling north on West Street without the driver for more than 200 feet before striking a utility pole.
"The motorcycle and the Dodge never made contact," Wright said.Delmar was transported to Newton Medical Center and later flown to Atlanta Medical Center where he died of his injuries.
