Newberry, FL : Chiefland man injured in crash on Newberry Road and 225th Street on Thursday morning, May 26, 2016
A Chiefland man was hospitalized with serious injuries Thursday morning when he drove into an SUV that had stopped at a pedestrian crosswalk in Newberry, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Gerald Martin, 40, was taken to North Florida Regional Medical Center, FHP reported in a press release.
The crash happened at 9 a.m. on Newberry Road and 225th Street. Martin was driving a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria east on Newberry Road. In front of him was Lois Livingston, 64, also of Chiefland, driving a 2002 Cadillac Escalade.
FHP reported that Livingston stopped to let pedestrians cross. Martin was unable to stop before the front of his car hit the SUV. He was cited for careless driving. Livingston had minor injuries and was not hospitalized.
