SUMTER, SC : Driver killed in crash near Sumter on Thursday, 8th September 2016
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a driver was killed in a crash late Thursday near Sumter.
Sumter County Coroner Harvin Bullock said Quintel Gerard Banks, 23, of Sumter, died of massive blunt force trauma.
Troopers said the crash occurred at about 10:18 p.m. on U.S. 15 when a northbound vehicle ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree. Troopers said the driver, Banks, was not wearing a seat belt and died on impact.
A passenger was wearing a seat belt and was taken by helicopter to the hospital. The passenger's condition is unknown at this time.
Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
