Phoenix, AZ : Fatal crash closes southbound I-17 near Camp Verde on Friday morning, September 5, 2014
Southbound traffic on Interstate 17 is flowing again after a fatal crash Friday morning, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
An Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman said the crash happened just after 5 a.m. and involved a vehhicle that struck a 54-year-old man who walked from the median into the path of the vehicle.
Officers were still trying to determine why the man was on the freeway.
The lanes reopened about 8:30 a.m., the ADOT spokesman said.
Traffic was being routed off I-17 at Middle Verde Road and detoured through Camp Verde, an ADOT spokesman said.
Northbound traffic was not affected, the spokesman said.
