Orlando,FL : Suspect named in deadly hit-and-run crash that killed child on December, Tuesday 26th 2017
Jonathan Williams, 21, was already on probation, and now, he's the prime suspect in the hit-and-run crash that killed a child, authorities said.
Williams is being held in the Polk County Jail and has not been charged in connection with the crash that killed Sebastian Duque, 12.
According to court documents, a probation officer wrote that Williams is a prime suspect in the fatal hit-and-run investigation with a case number that corresponds to Tuesday's crash on International Drive.
Williams was arrested for probation violation. He was ordered not to leave Polk County as part of a previous grand theft case.
In the documents, the officer wrote that Williams, "admitted to this officer that he was in Orange County at the time of the 12/26/2017 incident."
The Florida Highway Patrol said a person of interest in the case was interviewed Wednesday and refused to cooperate.
Investigators are building their case, talking to witnesses and trying to get surveillance video from a 7-Eleven store near the crash scene.
"That's really what matters, and what's going to matter to that family is that whoever did this and left the scene is held accountable for what they did," said Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Duque and his friends were crossing I-Drive, but not in a crosswalk.
They said if the driver had stopped, he or she likely would not have faced criminal charges, but leaving the scene means that driver could face up to 30 years in prison.
