Largo, FL : 49-year-old Bay area man walked into traffic in Largo Saturday night and was struck and killed on August 23rd 2014

A 49-year-old Bay area man walked into traffic in Largo Saturday night and was struck and killed. The incident occurred just before 10 pm in the 2400 block of East Bay Dr. The driver of the vehicle, a 16-year-old Largo girl, was not hurt. According to a Largo Police Department report David Francis Cooney was a transient. Witnesses reported seeing him running in front of several vehicles before he was hit by a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer. Cooney was pronounced dead at the scene. The report states he was not walking in the designated crosswalk when he was hit. No charges are expected as the investigation continues.
