Turtle, WI : 1 dead after crash between a car and semi truck on Interstate 39-90 early Saturday morning, January 7, 2017
Interstate 39-90 was closed for 10 miles after a deadly crash between a car and semi truck early Saturday morning in the town of Turtle, police said.
The driver of a Toyota Camry died at the scene after a head-on collision with a semi truck carrying Methanol and Hydrogen Peroxide near Shopiere Road, Rock County Sheriff Robert Spoden said.
Spoden said 10 miles of I-39-90 was closed between Janesville and Beloit -- from mile marker 175 to 185 -- in both directions. Lanes in both directions opened just after noon.
Initial reports and evidence from the scene indicate the Camry was traveling north in the southbound lanes when it struck the semi, Spoden said. He said the cab of the semi was fully engulfed in flames, but the driver was able to escape the cab on his own.
The State Patrol diverted traffic in both directions for the 10 mile stretch on the interstate.
The Janesville Police Department warned that the city and surrounding area may have significant traffic delays due to the detour.
