Lansing,MI : Driver crashes into multiple vehicles, highway shut down on September, Friday 1st 2017
A driver was hospitalized late Friday, Sept. 1, in Allegan County’s Martin Township after several reports of a car driving erratically and colliding with other vehicles.
Captain Scott Matice, of the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, said at about 8:20 p.m., Allegan County Central Dispatch received numerous calls about a motor vehicle crash on U.S. 131 near 116th Avenue in Martin Township. The suspect blue Dodge Durango left the scene. Shortly after, dispatch received another call that the blue Dodge Durango collided with a semi-tractor trailer.
The Dodge Durango was lodged under the trailer and the driver had to be extricated, Keuning said. Witnesses from the scene described the driver of the Durango driving “erratic and reckless” prior to the motor vehicle crashes.
The driver of the Durango received serious but non-life threatening injuries, Keuning said, and was transported to a Kalamazoo-area hospital. Nobody else involved in the crashes were injured. The expressway had to be shut down for a significant amount of time while first responders worked the scene.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Martin Fire/Rescue, Wayland EMS, and the Michigan State Police.
