HAVERHILL, MA : Girl killed in crash was popular 17-year-old Haverhill High senior on Monday, 24th September 2018

Police said the teenager who died from injuries she suffered in a two-car crash Monday night was a 17-year-old Haverhill High School senior.

The death of Jordan Rankin has caused emotional turmoil among Haverhill High students, who were allowed to leave school early Tuesday if they were too upset to attend classes.

The crash victim was popular among her classmates and played on several sports teams, a school official said. Grief counselors are at the school to talk with students who need emotional support.

The victim was identified in an email sent by the school superintendent to members of the School Committee and the mayor.

Police said the girl was driving a sedan around 9 p.m. Monday in the area of Liberty and Crystal streets when the crash happened. She was taken by ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital after the crash, police said. She was then taken by helicopter to a Boston hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
