Rock County, WI : Semi driver died in crash on Highway 81 on Wednesday afternoon July 30th 2014
A semi driver was killed Wednesday in a Rock County crash that spilled from 200 to 300 gallons of liquid fertilizer along State Highway 81, according to the sheriff's office.
Willard T. Trewyn, 75, of Janesville was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, reported shortly after 2 p.m. on Highway 81 and S. Olson Road in the Town of Newark, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff's Office.
According to the release, a 2006 Mack semi pulling a bulk tanker trailer was eastbound on the highway when it clipped the right rear of a an eastbound 2006 Pontiac G6, the driver of which had stopped to turn north into a private driveway.
Trewyn lost control of the semi, which rolled over and came to rest in the south ditch.
The 71-year-old Beloit woman driving the Pontiac and two women in the car, ages 71 and 84, were not injured.
Highway 81 was closed until about 10 p.m. Wednesday night because of the crash and the spill, which posed no safety risk to the public, according to the release.
Because of the spill, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources were notified of the incident, according to the release.
