A 32-year-old Croswell man was killed in a single-vehicle accident that took place on South Sandusky Road near Marlette Road early Thursday.

According to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the scene around 12:10 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies found a silver Jeep Liberty that had run off the roadway and crashed into some trees.

The initial investigation determined that Robert K. Brown, the sole occupant in the vehicle, suffered severe injuries from the crash and was transported to McKenzie Hospital by Sanilac EMS, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team, which was investigating another serious accident in Argyle Township when the accident occurred, responded to the scene. Two additional deputies were called in from home to the scene utilizing the Personally Assigned Vehicle (PAV) Program to assist with the investigation.

Alcohol is considered to be a contributing factor in the accident. The accident remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted by the Sandusky Police Department, Elk Township Fire, Croswell Police Department and Michigan State Police.
