HAMMOND, IN : NW Indiana man sues police, seeks damages for crash injuries on Saturday, 24th November 2018
A northwestern Indiana man alleges in a federal lawsuit that he suffered a traumatic brain injury when a police officer ran a red light and struck his vehicle.
Carlos Gallegos-Esqueda of Hammond is suing the Lake County Sheriff’s Department and others for damages.
He alleges that Lake County Sheriff’s Officer Anibal Ramos’ actions in the crash demonstrated a “deliberate indifference to the lives of those around him.”
The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports a police report says Ramos told officers he was chasing a possible drunken driver when the crash occurred.
