Rochester, N.Y : Pedestrian seriously hurt in Stafford crash on Sunday, March 19, 2017
A pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital Sunday after being struck by a car in Stafford, Genesee County.
The crash occurred about 12:30 p.m. on Route 33 and the involved driver reportedly lied about her involvement in the accident, according to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies at the scene determined the injured pedestrian, who was not identified by police, had been hit by a westbound vehicle and thrown into a ditch on the north side of the road.
Katelyn Brown, 23 of Brockport, who was on the side of her road in a damaged car, initially told police that the involved car left the scene and that she drove into a nearby utility pole, deputies said.
Deputies allege that Brown struck the pedestrian. Brown was not injured in the crash.
She was charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and was issued tickets for moving from lane unsafely and failure to use due care when approaching a pedestrian. She will be arraigned on those charges in Stafford Town Court at a later date. Brown was turned over to Ogden police for an outstanding warrant.
Deputies continue to investigate the crash. The pedestrian's medical status was not known.
