A 50-mile stretch of eastbound Interstate 90 has reopened over the Cascade Mountains following a crash involving an overturned tanker truck, the Washington State Patrol reports.
The eastbound lanes of the freeway, which is the main east-west route across Washington state, were closed between North Bend and Cle Elum for more than nine hours after the crash.
State troopers initially responded to the scene, just west of Cle Elum, at about 1:45 a.m. Friday after receiving reports of a serious crash.
They found three damaged vehicles, including a tanker lying on its side beside a bridge. The tanker was ruptured and leaking fuel onto the roadway and into the environment.
The truck driver had sustained minor injuries.
The circumstances leading up to the crash are under investigation.
The freeway reopened just before 11 a.m.
