Waxahachie, TX : Four people injured after a three-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 287 service road on Tuesday night, December 20, 2016

Early police reports believe alcohol might have played a role in a three-vehicle accident that sent four people, including a Waxahachie firefighter, to area hospitals with injuries Tuesday night.

According to Waxahachie Police Officer Derrick Young, WPD was toned out to a major accident at U.S. Highway 77 and the U.S. Highway 287 service road at approximately 8 p.m. Young noted that "it is possible that alcohol played a part" in the accident but "that part is still under investigation."

"The parties that caused the accident in the white pickup were transported to Methodist Dallas. There was another family (in a white sports utility vehicle). [That] driver is getting transported to Baylor Waxahachie," Young said. "The fire (department vehicle) that was involved was only occupied by the driver. That fireman suffered minor injuries. He is going to be looked at Baylor Waxahachie."

Young said the pickup truck was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 77 at the time of the accident. Witnesses reported to police that the pickup truck ran the red light just before the intersection of Highway 77 and the Highway 287 service road.

"The SUV was coming off the service road with a green light and the fire (vehicle) was parked at the red light. The pickup hit the SUV first, which then the pickup ran into the fire (vehicle), which caused it to roll over and it was on its side."
Members of the Waxahachie Police Department shut down the roadway while emergency crews worked the accident scene. Along with Waxahachie police and fire units, medical personnel with AMR ambulance service responded to the scene. The accident remains under investigation by the Waxahachie Police Department at this time.
