Canton, OH : One man is dead, a woman and two female children seriously hurt after their vehicle went over an embankment and into the West Branch Nimishillen Creek late Wednesday night on April 30th 2014
A man and a 3-month-old child have died after their car plunged over a ravine and into a creek Wednesday night, according to Canton police.
The driver, Paul T. Guthrie, 23, was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center. Gabriella Guthrie's death was announced Thursday afternoon.
Kymberlie Guthrie, 26, and 1-year-old Emelyn Gurthrie remain hospitalized. Kymberlie is in critical condition, according to police, and Emelyn is stable.
According to Canton police, at about 10 p.m. Wednesday night, the 2000 Chevrolet Tracker the family was traveling in left the roadway on the ramp from U.S. Route 30 to Interstate 77 southbound and fell about 100 feet into a ravine.
All passengers were trapped inside the vehicle, and police, firefighters and the Fire Department's water rescue team entered the water in an attempt to rescue the victims.
Two officers were treated for hypothermia and have since been released.
All victims were initially taken to Aultman Hospital before being transferred to Akron Children's Hospital and Akron General Hospital.
The incident remains under investigation. Police are hoping the adult woman still hospitalized will be able to help give details as to what happened.
