Santa Ysabel, CA : Three critically-injured in a fiery crash on state Route 78 in front of Dudley's Bakery on Tuesday morning, June 7, 2016

Three critically-injured victims, one man and two women, were airlifted to hospitals after they were involved in a fiery crash near Santa Ysabel Tuesday morning, reported authorities.

The two-vehicle crash occurred just before 8 a.m. on state Route 78 in front of Dudley's Bakery, said Cal Fire Public Information Officer Kendal Bortisser. The man was trapped in a car that caught fire and had to be extricated, he said.

As of 9:30 a.m., California Highway Patrol began conducting one-way traffic control in that area. Both lanes had been shut down after the crash.

Original story: A man has been airlifted to UCSD Medical Center after sustaining injuries in a fiery two-vehicle crash around 8 a.m. Tuesday on state Route 78 near Santa Ysabel, according to the California Highway Patrol website.

The eastbound side of Highway 78 is shut down at Old Julian Highway and traffic is backed up, report authorities. The accident occurred just west of Dudley's Bakery.

A female was also involved in the collision, states the CHP website.
