ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI : Three people were rushed to an area hospital after being pinned inside their vehicle during a head-on collision on Thursday, July 6, 2017
Three people were rushed to an area hospital after being pinned inside their vehicle during a head-on collision Thursday afternoon between a pickup truck and a minivan.
Troopers with the White Pigeon Detachment of the Michigan State Police reported that the collision happened at about 1:35 p.m. on July 6 on Riverside Drive near Mann Road in St. Joseph County's Mottville Township.
That is a few miles west of White Pigeon and north of the Michigan/Indiana state line.
Troopers reported that a truck driven by Brian Waldron, of Constantine, was eastbound on Riverside Drive.
"Waldron approached a vehicle that was stopped on Riverside Drive to make a left turn into a private drive," troopers reported in a press release.
They said Waldron attempted to pass the stopped vehicle and struck a westbound minivan head-on. The minivan was driven by Sarah Laughlin, 31, of Jones.
"After striking the minivan, the truck rolled several times coming to rest on the roof," according to Trooper John Hofmeister. "All three passengers of the truck were pinned inside and had to be extricated by fire personnel. They were all transported to Borgess Medical Center for treatment."
Hofmeister said Waldron, who he described as a middle-aged man, was pinned in his pickup truck along with his parents, who were his passengers. On Thursday afternoon, Hofmeister was still working to collect the names and ages of all of those involved.
