Community mourns after loss of father, son in vehicle crash

From school children to neighbors, the community is mourning after the loss of a Pike County father and son.

Timothy Green, 34, and Blake Green, 14, were killed in a single-vehicle crash on County Road 3304 on Wednesday afternoon.Blake was an eighth-grade student at Pike County High School where teachers and administrators knew him as quiet and kind.“Blake was the ideal student,” said PCHS Principal Willie Wright, adding that he’d known Blake since elementary school.
Wright said counselors and preachers were on hand at PCHS Thursday to help comfort and counsel students, and Troy City Schools offered even more support.

“It’s been a long day already. The kids are a little down. I told the students that he’s gone to a better place and we need to live life like Blake did,” Wright said. “He carried himself well and he was always doing the right thing. He was a leader to all of us.”Wright described Blake as quiet and never being any trouble, those traits were also reflected in his father.“He was a pretty quiet guy, but he worked well with everybody,” said Terry Qualls who worked with Timothy at KW Plastics. “You never heard anybody have a harsh word to say toward him or about him. He seemed to be real easy going.”Timothy was hired as a line operator at KW Plastics about six months ago and Qualls said he seemed to be very appreciative of the job.

Qualls said that the news of Timothy’s death seemed surreal and that, recently, Timothy had shared with co-workers that he was excited about preparing to move into a new home.“He will be missed,” Qualls said. “Hearing how this ties in so many other ways into the community, you see how so many people are connected to this family.”
According to Alabama State Troopers, Timothy Green was driving a Chevrolet Silverado when he ran off the road.The truck overturned and struck a tree. He and his son were pronounced dead at the scene.Three other family members, including Goshen High School student, Robyn Edwards, and Goshen Elementary student, Shelby Green, were transported for medical care.
