Anchorage,AK : Wasilla woman dies in crash involving driver with DUI-related warrant on May,Tuesday 29th 2018
A 71-year-old woman died Tuesday when her SUV was rear-ended on the Parks Highway just outside Wasilla, Alaska State Troopers said.
The woman, identified Wednesday as Pat Buchanan of Wasilla, was ejected from her Ford Explorer by the force of the collision, troopers said. She was not wearing a seat belt.
The other driver, identified as 48-year-old Nancy Murphy of Wasilla, had a revoked driver's license and was wanted on a warrant issued in March for failing to appear for a hearing on a charge of driving under the influence, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said.
The DUI charge stemmed from a 2016 arrest, according to a state courts database. Hearings were reset and continued until the latest warrant was issued in March of this year.
The accident occurred near Vine Road around 4 p.m. Troopers arriving on scene discovered Matanuska-Susitna Borough medics "undertaking lifesaving efforts" on Buchanan, according to a statement posted Tuesday.
Murphy's red Pontiac hit Buchanan's SUV hard enough that the Ford began to roll and Buchanan was ejected, troopers said. Medics pronounced Buchanan dead at the scene.
One other person was transported to the hospital, Mat-Su emergency officials said.
An investigation continues.
