Pender County, NC : Four children injured in crash between a tractor-trailer and SUV on U.S. 421 and Malpass Corner Road in Burgaw on Friday afternoon, March 25, 2016

Four children were taken to the hospital following an accident between a tractor-trailer and a SUV in Pender County Friday afternoon.

According to Highway Patrol officials, the accident happened around 12:40 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 421 and Malpass Corner Road in Burgaw.

A Dodge Durango was heading west on Malpass Corner Road and failed to yield the right of way at the intersection and was struck by a tractor-trailer heading south on U.S. 421.

Two children inside the Durango were ejected from the vehicle following the crash. Officials say one of the children was in an improperly installed restraining system while the other child was wearing a seatbelt, but should have been in a booster seat.

Troopers said both escaped serious injuries and were taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. They're expected to make a full recovery. The other two children suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital, too.

The drivers of the Durango and tractor-trailer were uninjured.

Troopers cited the Durango driver with failure to yield right of way and for a child restraint violation.

The intersection was closed for about an hour and a half.
