Jersey City, NJ : Paterson police officer killed in car crash on Sunday, 22nd April 2018

An on-duty Paterson police officer was killed in a car crash Sunday morning, authorities said.

Officer Tamby Yagan was driving a marked patrol vehicle when he collided with a parked car near 150 Getty Avenue just before 11 a.m., the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

Yagan was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson where he died, the statement said.

The Paterson Police Department's posted the following message on its Facebook page:

"From Director (Jerry) Speziale, Chief (Troy) Oswald and all members of the Paterson Police Department, our heartfelt and sincere sympathies to the family of our brother, Tamby Yagan," the post states. "May you Rest In Peace !!!"

The president of the state's police union, Patrick Colligan, said in a tweet that Yagan's death "leaves a loss for all of us."
