Port Arthur, TX: Pick-up truck crashes into tractor, splits in two after major accident in Port Arthur on Wednesday, July 15th 2015

One person has been hospitalized with serious injuries following a two-vehicle accident in Jefferson County, off of Highway 73, near the Veolia Plant.Authorities say the accident happened around 7:30 p.m., when the driver of a 2005 Chevrolet failed to control their speed, and rear ended a farm tractor traveling eastbound on Highway 73, on the outside lane."The force of the collision caused the pickup truck's cab to become separated from its truck bed and veer into the center grass median," said Trooper Stephanie Davis, Texas Department of Safety Public Information Officer. "The impact caused the farm tractor to go off the roadway and onto the shoulder."Davis says that the driver of the farm tractor, 53-year-old Percy Villemez of Port Arthur, was transported to St. Mary's Hospital by ambulance for treatment of unknown injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet, 35-year-old Patrick Pittman of Nederland, was transported by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Pittman is listed in serious condition.Investigators are still looking into the details surrounding the crash. Stay with 12News for more updates on this story.
