Alexandria, LA : Jonesville woman killed in Concordia Parish wreck early Saturday, August 27, 2016
A Jonesville woman died early Saturday when her vehicle went off La. Highway 565 in Concordia Parish and hit a tree, according to Louisiana State Police Troop E.
The victim was identified as Leslie L. Smith, 41, of Jonesville.
Troopers responded to the crash around 2:10 a.m. Saturday on La. Highway 565 near La. Highway 600. Smith was driving a 2012 Chevrolet pickup south on La. 565 when she lost control of the vehicle, which went off the left side of the road, went down an embankment and hit a tree, State Police reported.
Smith, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Routine toxicology tests are pending, and the crash remains under investigation.
Troopers from Troop E have investigated 35 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 40 fatalities.
A State Police news release said, "Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes."
