MANSFIELD, MA : Two escape serious injury in crash at routes 140 and 106 in Mansfield on Thursday, September 14, 2017
Traffic was tied up for about 45 minutes after a two-car accident at routes 106 and 140 Thursday afternoon.
The drivers were taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, according to the fire department.
Police said the accident at the busy intersection occurred just after 2 p.m. and both vehicles came to rest off the highway with other motorists tending to the victims.
A preliminary investigation found that one of the drivers was traveling south on Route 140 and took a sharp left turn, crossing three lanes of travel and through a red light, according to police.
The vehicle collided with a car traveling northbound on Route 140 through a green light in the center of the northbound lanes.
The driver who passed through the red light was given a ticket.
Names of the drivers were not released.
The accident was investigated by officers David Kinahan, Derek McCune, Greg Kennedy and Sgt. Michael Ellsworth.
