East Naples,FL : 10 injured Monday night in 3-vehicle East Naples crash on January, Monday 8th 2018
A three-vehicle crash Monday night in East Naples began when a driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic along U.S. 41, authorities said.
John Donovan, 77, of Rochester, New York, about 7:15 p.m. was turning left from southbound U.S. 41 and struck a car in the intersection.
Ten people were injured, seven of whom were sent to hospitals.
Donovan's 2018 Chevrolet Traverse turned into the path of a BMW driven by Bharat Rao, 66, of Naples, who was driving north on U.S. 41, troopers say. Rao's car hit the passenger side of Donovan's SUV, causing the Chevy to rotate and be redirected to the north, police say.
Deanna Healy, 42, of Naples, who was waiting to turn north on U.S. 41 from Price Street, pulled forward in her 2015 Nissan Altima as she saw the Chevy SUV coming. The front of the SUV hit the back of Healy's Nissan, the FHP said.
A charge of failing to yield is pending for Donovan, who suffered serious injuries and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital.
Passengers — all also of Rochester — injured in the Donovan vehicle were Kathleen Donovan, 75, who was serious and at Lee Memorial late Monday; Kaitlyn Buckert, 20, who suffered minor injuries and went to an NCH hospital; and Hannah Nelson, 20, who received minor injuries.
Rao and two passengers in his car suffered minor injuries: Warren Lobo, 60, and Roweena Lobo, 54, both of East Islip, New York. Christine Rao, 65, of Naples, was seriously injured and taken to Physicians Regional — Collier Boulevard.
Healy and a passenger, Kaylee Healy, 17, of Naples, suffered minor injuries.
