Caleb Williams, Herby Bolick, Jr. killed in Brandywine motorcycle accident

Two motorcyclists were killed Thursday night in an accident near Brandywine, police say.Maryland State Police says the accident, which happened at about 11 p.m. near the intersection of Route 301 and Short Cut Road, involved two motorcycles and a minivan.
According to law enforcement sources, the motorcyclists were travelling in a group of six bikers and they were going fast. When a minivan pulled broadside into their path, the two bikers hit the van so hard it flipped three times.
The two riders were killed instantly.They have been identified as Caleb Williams and Herby Bolick, Jr. of Upper Marlboro.
The crash scene is now littered with debris including this motorcycle turn signal switch. The area it is also marked with roses as a memorial.
It's the third serious motorcycle crash in the D.C. area this week and the second one to result in a fatality.
On Tuesday, Timothy Halpin, a 68-year-old man from Dumfries, was hit and killed by a tractor trailer while riding northbound on Interstate 95 near the Fairfax County Parkway.
The following day, a cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit by a truck on I-95 near Quantico.
As a Prince George’s County motorcycle officer Cpl. Joe Merkel rides for a living. Merkel says bikers and drivers share responsibility for safety.

“A lot of these motorcycles are designed to go very, very fast and we see riders that aren't afraid to go very fast on them,” he says. “Another contributing factor we see in crashes is the driver of the four wheel vehicle just doesn't see the motorcyclist.”

To promote safety, the Prince George’s County police are involved in several efforts. One targets riders to encourage safety and another announced at a press conference last week urges everyone to share the road.
