A 55-year-old woman was killed in early Wednesday when the car she was driving was struck by another vehicle that ran a stop sign at a highway junction in southwest Kansas, authorities said. The accident was reported at 6:56 a.m. at the junction of US-83 highway and County Road 7, about a mile north of Liberal in Seward County. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol’s crash log, a 2011 Lincoln passenger car was southbound on US-83 highway when it was struck by a 2011 Chevrolet passenger car that was westbound on County Road 7 and failed to stop at a stop sign. The driver of the Lincoln, identified as Rita M. Shogren, 55, of Satanta, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said she was wearing a seat belt. The driver of the Chevrolet, Patricia A. Amerin, 56, of Plains, was reported to be injured and was taken to Southwest Medical Center in Liberal for treatment.
