A 55-year-old woman was killed in early Wednesday when the car she was driving was struck by another vehicle that ran a stop sign at a highway junction in southwest Kansas, authorities said.
The accident was reported at 6:56 a.m. at the junction of US-83 highway and County Road 7, about a mile north of Liberal in Seward County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol’s crash log, a 2011 Lincoln passenger car was southbound on US-83 highway when it was struck by a 2011 Chevrolet passenger car that was westbound on County Road 7 and failed to stop at a stop sign.
The driver of the Lincoln, identified as Rita M. Shogren, 55, of Satanta, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said she was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Patricia A. Amerin, 56, of Plains, was reported to be injured and was taken to Southwest Medical Center in Liberal for treatment. The patrol said she wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
