Pueblo, CO : 1 dead in morning Pueblo crash on Thursday, March 16th 2017
Police said a 21-year-old man died in an early Thursday morning traffic accident at a Bessemer intersection after he reportedly drove his car into the oncoming lane of traffic and collided with a truck.
Around 6:25 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of West Northern and Lake avenues, which is several blocks west of Bessemer Park, in regard to the accident.
Once on scene, officers learned a truck was traveling west on West Northern when a car traveling east on West Northern crossed into the same lane as the oncoming truck and ran into it, according to police.
The car rolled and ejected the driver, who was identified by Pueblo County Coroner Brian Cotter as Jose Roberto Garcia.
Garcia's car came to rest in a parking lot northeast of where the accident occurred.
Garcia was transported to a local hospital where police said he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the truck, who was not identified, was not injured in the crash, police said.
Police said excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
It's unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol played a part.
The investigation is ongoing.
