Savannah, GA : Family still reeling from loss after fatal crash last Thursday morning on Wilmington Island Road on August 14, 2014
Melanie Riley was killed in a car crash last Thursday morning on Wilmington Island Road. Metro Police say a car, traveling too fast, ran off the road and struck some palm trees.
Police say the driver, Kevin Wallace, and another passenger got out of the car and ran. Riley was found dead in the backseat.
Riley grew up in Savannah and married her husband when they were in high school. They have four children. The family had recently moved to Tennessee.
According to family members, the driver and the passengers of that car were also close family members.
"I have never experienced your whole life just dropping out from under you," said Mellelena Hardin, Riley's oldest sister. "Her heart was just so big, she touched everybody."
"She was just always there to talk to. She was there and I knew she would not tell anyone. She knew all my secrets," said Khiella Riley, Melanie's daughter. "I am just seeing her face every day."
Wallace was charged with homicide by vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to give aid. His next court appearance will be Sept. 11.
Riley's Wake will be held Friday and the funeral will take place on Saturday.
