Reading, PA : Mohnton man dies in crash on Route 222 in Spring Township on Friday, February 24, 2017

A driver in a pickup truck was killed Friday after slamming into a tractor-trailer on Route 222 in Spring Township.

The crash occurred about 4:40 p.m. The driver of the pickup was southbound when he crashed into the back of the tractor-trailer that was stopping in traffic, Spring Township police said.
Ryan L. Valle, 40, of Mohnton died in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene about 5:35 by officials from the Berks County coroner's office. The death has been ruled accidental.

Area firefighters, police and an accident reconstruction team were on the scene Friday night.
“The only thing I can tell you is that the tractor-trailer was stopping with the traffic backed up, and he didn't stop,” said Sgt. Barry Marchut. “It's pretty obvious to see what happened.”
Emergency responders attempted to free Valle but weren't able to get him out in time, Marchut said.
No one else was injured in the crash. The highway was closed for more than five hours.
The crash happened during peak Friday afternoon traffic, and drivers were diverted around the crash via the Broadcasting Road on and off ramps.
