Topeka, KS : Nebraska man killed in car-semi crash while attempting U-turn on western Kansas highway on Wednesday afternoon, April 5, 2017

A Nebraska man was killed Wednesday afternoon when he attempted to make a U-turn on a highway in western Kansas.

The crash occurred at 3 p.m. on US-83 highway, about two miles south of US-24 highway in Thomas County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol’s online crash log indicated a 2016 Subaru XV Crosstrek was northbound on US-83 and was attempting to make a U-turn when it was struck by a 2003 Peterbilt semi that was southbound on US-83.

The Subaru’s driver, Normal L. Hale, 52, of Omaha, Neb., was taken to Citizens Medical Center in Colby, where he later died. Hale was wearing a seat belt, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Peterbilt, which was pulling a cattle trailer, was identified as Lucas T. Ruth, 28, of Healy. He was reported uninjured.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles, the patrol said.
