Alcohol was a factor in a north Charlotte crash that shut down part of Interstate 85 and sent one person to the hospital Friday morning.
It happened around 3 a.m. on I-85 north at Statesville Avenue. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a driver struck an unoccupied vehicle, which was fully engulfed in flames when officers arrived.
The driver is in critical condition, CMPD says. Three lanes on I-85 were blocked for a time, and reopened around 5 a.m.
There's no word on charges. No names have been released.
