St. Augustine, FL : 58-year-old Bicyclist dies after being hit by car on U.S. 1 in St. Johns County on Monday night, Nov 1, 2015

A vehicle hit a bicyclist Monday night in the 1900 block of U.S. 1 south near State Road 312.

FHP responded to the call at about 6:30 p.m. The bicyclist was flown to UF Health Jacksonville, where he died.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and tells Action News Jax the bicyclist was crossing over State Road 312 when the car hit the rider. It’s unclear who had the right of way. The car turned down State Road 312, dragging the bike underneath it for several hundred feet, according to FHP.
The driver was an 82-year-old man of St. Augustine who Action News Jax observed having trouble walking, even leaning on FHP. FHP took pictures and did measurements at the scene. So far no charges have been given.
The driver and the passenger in the vehicle reported minor injuries.
