Fremont, CA: Two people including child injured in a solo vehicle crash

At least two people were injured, including a 7-year-old child, in a solo-vehicle crash Friday afternoon along Interstate 680, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck was reported at 2:52 p.m. and took place in the southbound lanes of the interstate just north of Scott Creek Road, Officer Ralph Caggiano said.

Officers said a 2005 Jeep Cherokee with five people inside was traveling south along the interstate under the Scott Creek overcrossing when it flipped for an unknown reason.

A 7-year-old child inside the Jeep suffered major injuries in the crash and was taken by medical helicopter to San Jose Medical Center.

At least one other person in the crash suffered minor injures, officers said.

The Jeep was towed from the scene.

Traffic was crawling in the area for just over an hour because the wreck forced officers to shut down two lanes of traffic for about one hour.
