Millsfield, N.H : Man suffers serious injuries in drunken ATV crash on Sunday, Nov 1, 2015

A man suffered possibly life-threatening injuries and was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol in an ATV crash Sunday evening, according to authorities.

Fish and Game officials said Gerard Demers, 44, of Ware, Massachusetts, was traveling north on West Branch Road in the town of Millsfield toward Route 26 when he misjudged a gradual turn and went off the roadway.

Demers was thrown from the vehicle. His riding companion found him unconscious.

Officials said the other man put Demers onto his UTV and took him to the Log Haven Restaurant, where he called 911.

Demers was taken to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital before being transferred to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He suffered serious, possibly-life threatening injuries.

Officials said Demers was also charged with operating under the influence of alcohol.

The official cause of the crash remains under investigation, but authorities said the dark, speeding and alcohol were likely factors.
